hunt saboteurs
The Hunt Saboteurs Association (formed in 1963) is one of a number of groups spawned by the animal rights movement. The hunt saboteurs aim to disrupt (‘sabb’) hunting of stags and foxes with packs of hounds. They use ‘direct action’ (aniseed trails, misleading hunting horns) and are officially pledged to non-violent methods, although two saboteurs have been killed in recent years and many have been hospitalized. Members have been prosecuted for aggravated trespass under Section 68 of the Criminal Justice Act 1994. The HSA has numerous local branches throughout the UK, and popular support from a disparate range of people from hippies to professionals. Their principal opponents are the British Field Sports Society.
